    Summary:We have used chipped the Pine or Hinoki cypress woods as the initial carbon materials which have thinned the forests at Kamo region in Hiroshima prefecture. After rapid degradation of woody biomass carbon materials from the woody chips, were performed by Pulse Electric Current Sintering (SPS) method with a short period, and without adding binders and additives at various SPS heat treating temperature. In order to clear the correlation between SPS heat treating temperature and woody biomass estimated from the X-ray diffraction analysis, SEM observation, hardness and compressive testing. Obtained SPS heat treated materials at above 1073K and pressure of 30 MPa from woody biomass, show the bulk cylindrical compacts with amorphous structures. According to the increasing of SPS heat treating temperature, the hardness of surface of SPS bulk increased and the compressive strength increased, and also the porosity of the bulk decreased. In case of the applied pure carbon materials for SPS method, the bulk forms did not obtained even if the SPS heat treating temperature heat up to 1773K and 30MPa. By using of SPS operating at 1273K prepared from woody biomass of pine chips, the cylindrical bulk shows 83 Shore hardness and 55 MPa in compressive strength, these values were the highest observed in this study.

    Summary:[synopsis] Recently, nano-structured materials receive special attention as a novel hydrogen storage medium because of potentially large storage capacity, safety, and fast filling and delivering from the fuel tank of fuel cell vehicles. Magnesium (Mg) hydride is considered as one of the most interesting alternatives for the reversible storage of hydrogen due to several unique advantages such as element abundance, economic production cost, easy handling as well as a high hydrogen storage capacity of 7.6 mass%. However the major problem of magnesium as a rechargeable hydrogen carrier system is its slow reaction rate and high sorption temperature. A breakthrough in hydrogen storage technology has been achieved by preparing nano-crystalline hydrides using high-energy ball milling. These new materials show very fast absorption and desorption kinetics at 300 degrees Celsius. However, desorption and absorption at low temperatures is still too slow, limiting technical applications. Overseas researchers have been extensively studied from the viewpoint of developing advanced Mg-based hydrogen storage materials. For example, binary compounds such as calcium dimagnesium (CaMg2) with C14 Laves phase alloy is expected to absorb hydrogen more than 6 mass%, when the H/M ratio reaches 2. This study aims to clarify and discuss the mechanism of hydriding process of nano-crystallized CaMg_2 alloy conducted by mechanical grinding (MG) process. The mechanically milled CaMg_2 alloy was characterized by microstructure observation and XRD analysis, TEM analysis and hydrogen absorbing capacity. The long term of mechanical grinding process has lead to amorphous phase of CaMg_2 alloy. The 2 hours of MG treated CaMg_2 alloy showed not only absorbing 1 mass% of hydrogen at low temperature such as 200 degree Celsius, but also decomposed to Ca and Mg at temperature from 240 degree Celsius.     Summary:The influence of matrix microstructure on impact characteristics of ductile cast iron was investigated by using three kinds of heat-treated ductile cast irons whose matrix structures are ferrite, pearlite and bainite (ausferrite). The instrumented Charpy impact tests were carried out with un-notched and V-notched specimens in the temperature range from 123 K to 423 K. The results obtained are summarized as follows: In the ductile region, the impact value becomes larger in the order of pearlite, bainite and ferrite matrix, which is the same order in elongation, In the brittle region, the difference in matrix microstructure does not affect impact value. The impact transition temperature becomes lower in the order of pearlite, bainite and ferrite matrix. Addition of an external notch to impact specimens results in rising in transition temperature in every matrix. The external notch factor (impact value of un-notched specimen divided by impact value of notched specimen) becomes larger in the order of ferrite, pearlite and bainite matrix, which is the same order in hardness, and this means that a sample with a harder matrix is more largely affected by external notches.

    Summary:This study aims to clarify the effects of external notch on the impact and bending characteristics of spheroidal graphite cast iron (FDI) and compacted vermicular graphite cast iron (FCV) whose matrix was fully-ferritized by annealing. From each sample we produced five kinds of Charpy-type specimens by adding five kinds of notches whose stress concentration factor (α) varied from 1 (un-notched) to 4.8. They were applied for instrumented Charpy impact testing at the temperature range between 98 K to 423 K and also for three-point-bend testing under a slow loading speed at room temperature.<br>  The test results of the Charpy impact testing and bend testing showed that the absorbed energy decreases greatly in the range of α from 1 to 2.3 but decreases slightly in the range of α larger than 2.3 in both samples. The results of energy analysis showed that the decreasing tendency of the absorbed energy by adding notches is mainly caused by the decreasing tendency of crack-initiation energy. The degree of influence of the external notches on toughness was found to be larger in the case of FDI than in the case FCV, and also larger in impact testing than in bend testing.

    Summary:透明な導電性薄膜に関する研究は、Inを母相とする酸化物材料を中心に盛んに行われている。本研究は、ITOに替わる新規材料の探索的合成を主眼として行うものであり、RFマグネトロンスパッタ法を用いて、マグネシウムを母相とする透明導電性薄膜の合成を試みた。作製した薄膜について電気特性、光学特性ならびに微細構造について、4端子法、分光光度計ならびにXRD、EPMA、XPS、SEMなどを用いて評価を行った。

    Summary:In order to modulate the thermodynamic properties of the (Mg-Al)-H_2 system, the extended homogeneity range of the intermetallic γ-phase Mg_<17>Al_<12> has been studied. Several Mg_xAl_<100-x> samples were prepared by the bulk mechanical alloying (BMA) process. This method was used because of its great advantages for industrial applications (reducing time process, solid preform, large scale production, reducing the surface exposition to the oxidation...). The structures and phase's homogeneity of alloying compounds were analyzed by several experimental measurements and are in mutual agreement with properties of existing phases. The hydrogen absorption properties are presented at 350℃. At 2MPa, samples X=50 and X=58.6 show a maximum hydrogen capacity of 3.5 and 3.7wt% respectively. For these two compounds, the pressure-composition isotherm (PCT) curves show two absorption plateaux. The shape discontinuity corresponds to the transformation of γ-Mg_<17>Al_<12> to the intermediate β-phase (Al_3Mg_2) before the complete decomposition in MgH_2 hydride and pure Al-fcc in a second step. After complete desorption, the initial compounds are recovered, indicates that the reactions are reversible. Theses behaviors are confirmed by X-Rays diffraction (XRD) patterns refined by the Rietveld method.

    Summary:Mgを含むA2B合金は水素吸蔵合金として注目されている.母相としてFe(bcc)とCo(hcp)を選択し,Mg(hcp)を添加することによって得られる2元系合金微粒子の作製を試みた.しかし混合エンタルピ(ΔHmix)が正であるため,一般的な作製手法では単相を得にくい.そこでΔHmixの符号に左右されない合金作製法として有望な機械的合金法を適用した.得られた粉末の構造や特性を種々評価した.
