    Summary:In this paper, we proposed modeling and analysis method of service process of restaurant hall. We proposed method to analyze relationship among seat layout, the number of waitpersons and customers queuing in crowded restaurant. Queuing theory is often adapted to above analysis. Queuing theory is effective analysis technique when a customer has a static relation with the waitperson. It is difficult to analyze service process in which waitperson and customer act mutually and move at a service place. Therefore in this research we modeled behavior of customers and waitpersons using two-dimensional cellular automata (henceforth: CA). The modeling result for above mentioned process was implemented on a computer using multi agent simulation (henceforth: MAS). Relationship among the seat layout, the number of waitpersons and customers queuing in crowded restaurant was analyzed with computer simulation. This analytical technique was applied to a restaurant crowded in lunch time and the policy to decrease customer queuing time was discussed. As a result, it was founded that the seat layout that the number of customer in group and the number of customers who can sit in the seat is equal has effect to decrease customer queuing time and the effectiveness of this modeling and analysis method was confirmed.     Summary:We propose improvement method of customer acquisition for Taxi Company rearranging taxi crew's, working hours. There are two customer acquisition methods for Taxi Company. One is to deliver taxi for telephone request, and the other is to get customer on road. There are many taxi companies in which the former customer acquisition ratio is higher than the latter especially those business domain is restricted in small city. First we analyze the frequency distribution for every per hour of the number of taxis in operation, and the number of telephone requests. We trace that peak hours of the number of taxis in operation and the number of telephone requests differed. We research service system so as to operate many taxis in the time zone with many taxi delivery demands by telephone requests. As a result, it turns out that it is effective strategy to increase taxi crews in midnight and early morning with many customers instead of deceasing taxi crews in daytime with few customers.

    Summary:There are a large number of multi-stage job-shop processes in production plants. Steel making process is also modeled as of a multi-stage job-shop process with crane handling. In the steel making process if there are two or more overhead traveling cranes for material handling in a house, it becomes very difficult to obtain in practice an optimal or near optimal solution under consideration of restrictions concerning crane interference caused between them as well as many restrictions for each facility in the house of production plant. In this paper, we first present a formulation of the scheduling problem taking account of the crane interference and then propose a heuristic algorithm to find a sub-optimal solution which starts at feasible solutions and solves the problem in a finite time. The algorithm is characterized by restricting search space and using hybrid method of depth-first search and width-first search on an enumeration tree for crane assignment. We also discuss an availability of this algorithm using a numerical simulation for a practical steel making process.

    Summary:An efficient two-stage algorithm has been developed to solve a large-scale multiobjective scheduling problem in steel sheets production. The heuristic algorithm is a blend of operator’s know-how and a mathematical solution. The two-stage procedure consists of a rough and detailed scheduling step based on order groping. It enables us to do synchronized scheduling for a multistage manufacturing process as well as to reduce the number of combinations. In addition, the dynamic programming supports efficient calculation. The scheduling system contributes to better-designed schedules and drastic reduction of scheduling time. © 1998 Blackwell Publishing Ltd.
