Profile

  • My research scope is history of Hungary and Central Europe in general during the first half of the 20th century(especially in the interwar period). I received PhD from The University of Tokyo in 2016. My dissertation is about how Hungarian politicians struggled to modify the country to the international systems after WWI, focusing on the political activities by Mihály Károlyi and his colleagues in exile during the first half of the 1920s. I published a monograph based on it in 2021. As the evaluations of them have differed according to times, now I am interested in the topics related to historiography and public history too. Related to this, I also have publised some articles on interwar-period Hungarian geographers and introductory commentaries on today's Hungarian politics. Now I teach modern and contemporary European history at a university in Higashi-Osaka, Osaka, Japan.

    This paper discussed the relationship between the UK and Hungary through the international labour movement, focusing on what action the leaders of the Labour Party and trade unions in Great Britain expected the British government to take against the violent repression called "white terror" in Hungary as well as on the British government's response to their commitment.

    「里山」とは、集落に隣接していたことで継続的に人間の手が継続的に加わった形で高度な生物多様性が維持されてきた山林を指す。里山は高度経済成長後に急速に衰退したが、2000年代に強まった「昭和30年代ブーム」の中で「日本の原風景」として美化されると共に、人間と自然を二項対立的に捉える西洋近代思想とは異なる「日本独自の」自然利用形態として環境問題の文脈で注目されるようになった。こうして2000年代には生物多様性関連の政策で「SATOYAMA」として推進されることとなる。しかし「里山」保全の環境政策と農業政策を比較すれば分かるように、現在の日本で語られている「里山」とは、実際に人々が生活する環境から切り離された非実在の理想郷だと考えられる。 (中国西南民族大学彝学学院院長(教授)のアク・ウウ氏による開幕講演に続き、エスニック・マイノリティ研究会から5名の若手研究者が日本文化について紹介を行った。日本語・中国語の通訳付き。エスニック・マイノリティ研究会第17回研究会を兼ねた。)

    本研究の目的は、第一次世界大戦後にハンガリー領内に逃れた避難民が移住先で労働者を中心とする現地住民とどのように関わり合いながらハンガリー社会に統合されていったのかを明らかにすることである。 当初の研究計画では、本年度は史料調査とその分析を集中的に行う予定であった。しかし、現地での史料調査は前年度に引き続いて実施することができず、日本国内からでも確認可能なデジタル化された史資料の調査を引き続き進めた。その成果は、2021年8月の第10回国際中東欧研究協議会（ICCEES）モントリオール大会（オンライン開催）での研究発表に採り入れた。地理認識に関するパネルでの発表ではあったが、第一次世界大戦後の国境変動に伴って自らの「ハンガリー人」としての意識を再定義する過程という点で、本研究課題にとっても役立つ知見が得られた。 また、第一次世界大戦終結やトリアノン条約調印から100周年に合わせた研究論集・研究論文の刊行が引き続き相次いでいる。これらを参照し、いくつかの文献については書評を執筆していく過程で、旧領からの避難民を、第一次世界大戦下の中央・東ヨーロッパで進行した住民の強制的な移動として、より広い視野で位置づけることの可能性も検討するようになった。この視点は、2021年10月の国際政治学会大会でのコメンテーターを務めた際にも活用した。書評に関しては今後公表される予定である。 なお、本年度は2021年6月にハンガリーで成立した「反LGBTQ＋法」に関連して、特定の集団を「人種化」していく政治言説について考察する機会を得られた。現代政治に関する議論ではあったが、ハンガリー社会における統合と異化との関係の考察が不可欠である本研究課題とも視点が重なるところがあり、この成果も次年度に向けて生かしていきたいと考えている。

    In November 1918 the armistices signed by belligerent countries stopped the fighting in Western Europe. Even then they failed to pave the way to peaceful solutions in East-Central Europe, where collapse of the Russian, Habsburg, Ottoman, and German Empires necessitated a new map covering this area. Many nationalities were intermingled there, and national self-determination declared by Woodrow Wilson turned out to be a competitive game, which eventually led to armed conflicts. When the World War and the ensuing civil wars ended, the Habsburg Monarchy had been replaced by successor states which prevailed on its soil. Historiography has had difficulty in defining what they succeeded from the Monarchy because its description has been overshadowed by the catchword of national self-determination. Our study project aimed at rebuilding historiography of the contemporary East-Central Europe through revealing what successor states inherited from the Monarchy.

    The greatest achievement in this research is the special issue "the space in-between Russia and Europe: from a perspective both of the Ukrainian crisis and history of the area" of a peer reviewed journal "JCAS (Japan Consortium for Area Studies) Review" (vol.16, no. 1, 2015). While all of five members of this project contributed articles to this issue about the idea of Central Europe (or Mitteleuropa) in the Interwar period, four articles focusing on the Ukrainian crisis were written by another authors. In addition to that, a round-table discussion bridging between historical research and analysis of the current situation was attached to the issue.

    2005年9月に修士論文執筆に向けて「ハプスブルク帝国崩壊後のハンガリーにおける社会再編と知識人」を研究課題として、ウィーン・ブダペストにて現地調査を行った。
