- 井上 治生駒経済論叢 13 2 17 - 38 近畿大学経済学会 2015年11月[概要] ソーントン・ワイルダーの短編小説のなかで最も遅くに出版された「軍艦」では, ワイルダーの戯曲で繰り返し用いられている「人生にもっと十分にもっと自由に参加したいという人間の熱望」というモチーフが使われている. その意味でこの短編小説はほかのワイルダーの作品と関連している重要な作品であるのだが, そのモチーフがこの作品においてのみ少し形を変えて用いられている. その「変奏」がなぜこの短編小説のみに起こっているのかということを, この作品の執筆時期を推察することを通して明らかにする. [Abstract] In "The Warship," which was published last of all the short stories Thornton Wilder wrote, the motif, "the aspirations of the young ［and not only of the young］ for a fuller, freer participation in life," is used. This motif recurs in many of Wilder's plays. "The Warship" is very important because it is related to other works of his by the common motif. However, a variation of the motif is used in this short story. The reason why the variation is adopted only in this story is clarified by trying to identify when the story began to be written and was completed.
- 井上 治生駒経済論叢 13 2 1 - 15 近畿大学経済学会 2015年11月[概要] ソーントン・ワイルダーが大学時代に書いた短編小説「ザベットの結婚」では, 「聖人」がモチーフとして使用されている. 大学時代に書かれたほかの短編小説や一幕劇でも用いられているこのモチーフは, 彼の代表的な多幕劇『わが町』において観客に衝撃的な演劇的経験を与えることに成功する場面でも効果的に用いられているだけでなく, 彼の後期の一幕劇においても使用されている. このように, 彼が自分の思想と主題を伝えるために使い続けたモチーフ「聖人」が用いられているこの「ザベットの結婚」は, のちのワイルダーの作品につながる重要な作品であるといえる. [Abstract] In "The Marriage of Zabett," a short story Thornton Wilder wrote in his college days, the word "saint" is used as the motif of the story. The motif "saint," which recurs in other short stories and another one-act play written in the same days, is used afterward not only in his most famous full-length play Our Town, but also in one of his one-act plays written in his late years. Especially in Our Town, the motif plays an effective role in the scene where Wilder gave his audience a sensationally dramatic experience they had never been given before. "The Marriage of Zabett" is an important short story that is related to his later works because the motif "saint," which Wilder used over and over again in his writing in order to convey his thoughts and themes, is used in this work.

- 井上 治生駒経済論叢 12 2 1 - 17 近畿大学経済学会 2014年11月[概要] ソーントン・ワイルダーの後期のサイクル劇のひとつである「人間の七つの世代」に含まれる２本の一幕劇「青年時代」と「地下を流れる川」は未完の作品である. 「青年時代」は, 演劇の新しい表現形式を提示できていないこと, 舞台上で物語を押し進めていくアクションがないこと, 「地下を流れる川」は, 演劇的手法は用いられているものの, 物語を押し進めていくアクションがないこと, モチーフを話の筋の中にうまく組み込むことができていないことが, それぞれが未完になった理由として考えられる. さらに, ワイルダー自身が, 新しい演劇的手法をもつ芸術作品としての戯曲をもう創造できないことを自覚していたということも, 理由として付け加えられるかもしれない. [Abstract] Thornton Wilder's two one-act plays: "Youth "and "The River Under the Earth," which are included in one of his cycle plays, The Seven Ages of Man, he wrote in his later years, were left unfinished. The reasons why they were left unfinished can be mentioned as follows: in "Youth," neither new nor established dramatic method is used, and no dramatic action by which the plot of the play moves ahead happens; in "The River Under the Earth, "no dramatic action happens either though some dramatic methods are used, and some central motifs of which Wilder emphasizes the importance are not firmly embedded in the plot of the play. It may also be added to the reasons that Wilder realized he could not write any more plays with a new dramatic method which would be recognized as a work of art.
- 井上 治生駒経済論叢 12 1 1 - 19 近畿大学経済学会 2014年07月[概要] ソーントン・ワイルダーの後期のサイクル劇のひとつである「人間の七つの大罪」については, 彼の生誕１００年を祝って, １９９７年に全７作品がまとめて出版された. しかし, 今回論じる４作品に関しては, 彼の生前には, 「バーニス」は英語で上演されたもののドイツ語でしか出版されず, 「ドアベルが鳴り響く」と「シェイクスピアと聖書」はほぼできあがっていたにもかかわらず未完成のままとなり, 「セメント・ハンズ」は完成していたものの上演されることはなかった. これら４つの一幕劇をワイルダーが出版しなかった・完成させなかった理由は, くり返される主題を常に新しい表現形式で提示してきたワイルダーが, これらの作品ではそれをできていないことを認識していたからであろう. [Abstract] All of the seven one-act plays included in one of his cycle plays, The Seven Deadly Sins, which were written in Thornton Wilder's late years were published in １９９７ in celebration of the centennial of his birth. However, four of the seven plays discussed here were not published or finished in Wilder's lifetime: "Bernice "was staged in English but published only in German; "A Ringing of Doorbells" and "In Shakespeare and the Bible "were left unfinished though they were nearly completed; "Cement Hands" was not staged though it was finished. The reason why Wilder did not publish or finish them must have been as follows: Wilder always expressed his frequent themes in different artistic styles for each work, and so he must have realized he had not shown any new style in stating the themes for the four one-act plays.
- 井上 治生駒経済論叢 11 2 13 - 27 近畿大学経済学会 2013年11月[概要] ソーントン・ワイルダーの後期の2種類のサイクル劇「人間の七つの世代」と「人間の七つの大罪」に含まれる3本の一幕劇「幼年時代」, 「子供時代」, 「アッシジの人」が上演されたとき, 彼は「ブリーカー・ストリートのための劇」という総合タイトルを付けた。「ブリーカー・ストリート」とは円形劇場の所在地であり, ワイルダーは演劇がかつて持っていた力を取り戻すことを意図して, 円形劇場で戯曲を上演したのである。しかし, 「アッシジの人」は彼の生前に刊行されず, 2種類のサイクル劇も未完に終わった。その理由は, くり返される主題を新しい表現形式で提示してきたワイルダーが, これらの一幕劇ではそれをできていないことを認識していたからである。 [Abstract] In his late years, Thornton Wilder wrote three one-act plays: "Infancy," "Childhood," and "Someone from Assisi," which were included in his two cycle plays The Seven Ages of Man and The Seven Deadly Sins. When they were performed, he chose the over-all title, "Plays for Bleecker Street." Bleecker Street was where the arena theatre was located, and Wilder had the three plays performed at the theatre in order to have the power restored that the drama once had in its great ages. However, "Someone from Assisi" was not published and neither of the two cycle plays was completed in Wilder'e lifetime. The reason must have been that Wilder was an artist who always expressed his frequent themes in different artistic styles for each work, and so he realized he had not shown any new style in stating the themes for these one-act plays.
- 井上 治生駒経済論叢 8 3 1 - 13 近畿大学経済学会 2011年03月[概要]本論では, ソーントン・ワイルダーの後期のサイクル劇「七つの大罪」のひとつである一幕劇「5時25分発列車の大事故」について, ワイルダーのほかの作品との主題の類似, さらには, 小説『めざすは天国』とのモチーフの類似を指摘することを通して論じ, 主人公のホーキンズが「窓を通して見たもの」について考察する。ワイルダーはくり返される主題をそれぞれの作品において常に異なる表現形式で提示しようとしてきた作家なので, この一幕劇が優れた成功した作品であるにもかかわらずワイルダーが出版を認めなかった理由は, 彼がこの作品において芸術の新しい表現形式を提示することができていないことを認識していたからであろう。 [Abstract] The aim of this paper is to consider what Mr. Hawkins saw by looking through the window in "The Wreck on the Five-Twenty-Five," a one-act play that is included in Thornton Wilder's cycle play The Seven Deadly Sins that he wrote during his later years. Something Mr. Hawkins saw is considered by showing that this one-act play has a similarity with the themes of other works of Wilder's and also has similar motifs to one of his novels Heaven's My Destination. Wilder always tried to frequently express his themes in different styles in each work. Hence, the reason why Wilder did not approve the publication of this one-act play, although it is better and well known, is because he must have realized that he had not shown a new artistic style when stating the theme within this work.
