Pneumatic rubber artificial muscles are nearly ideal for power assistance, medical care, and rehabilitation due to their lightweight drive unit made of rubber, which is soft and safe for human use. However, they have complex nonlinearities, including input saturation, hysteresis, and changes in static characteristics due to shrinkage. Additionally, when used with a human subject, the artificial muscle control system’s characteristics may vary based on the person’s physique, fitness, temperature, and the rubber’s deterioration. Therefore, it is desirable to be able to auto-tune the PID and other controllers in a short time before use. Data-driven controls such as FRIT and VRFT are suitable for auto-tuning in a short time. Among them, V-Tiger presented a procedure for predicting the actual closed-loop response and its Confidence interval. However, V-Tiger is not applicable to nonlinear systems with input saturation. This paper describes a procedure for (1) tuning PID gains by predicting the closed-loop response with V-Tiger in the presence of input saturation, (2) obtaining Confidence intervals for the predicted response affected by input saturation, and (3) how to use the Confidence intervals to apply this method to nonlinear systems.

Probability inequalities are known as an effective means to evaluate the upper bound of upper probability for an average of some random variables based on only limited stochastic properties, e.g., expectation, variance, and codomain for each random variable. Among them, Hoeffding probability inequality has been known as one of the best theoretical ways for evaluating the upper bound of upper probability about an average of several random variables based on limited stochastic properties such as expectation, variance and codomain in each random variable. In this study, the authors address a study for essentially improving the performance of Hoeffding probability inequality. In consequence, a new probability inequality with more superior performance than Hoeffding probability inequality is derived.

There are many studies about negotiation procedures for contract problems in supply chains. Several recent papers have considered a new negotiation procedure for a repurchase contract problem in a supply chain consisting of a manufacturer and a retailer. There, usually, are some wholesalers between a manufacturer and a retailer. Therefore, a supply chain including some wholesalers in addition to a manufacturer and a retailer should be considered. In this study, we call the supply chain in which three or more members are arranged in series the tandem supply chain. We, firstly, address a negotiation problem for a contract about wholesale and repurchase prices in the tandem supply chain in which three members, that is, a manufacturer, a wholesaler and a retailer are arranged in series. The whole contract in the tandem supply chain is composed of two contracts dependent mutually, i.e., the contract between the manufacturer and wholesaler and the contract between the wholesaler and retailer. The collaborative bargaining solution in the tandem supply chain consisting of three members is discussed. This paper, finally, formulates the tandem supply chain including several wholesalers.

<p style='text-indent:20px;'>Behavior that a customer who has just arrived at a crowded queueing system leaves without joining the queue is known as the phenomenon of balking. Queueing systems with balking have been studied continually as one of significant subjects. In this paper, the theoretical approach for the steady-state analysis of the Markovian queueing systems with balking is considered based on the concept of the statistical mechanics. Here, it can be easily seen that the strength of balking is not constant but various in each queueing systems. Note that the strength of balking means how degree a customer who has just arrived at a crowded queueing system leaves without joining the queue. In our approach, under considering the difference of the strength of balking for each queueing systems, we have proposed a statistical mechanics model for analyzing the M/M/<inline-formula><tex-math id="M1">\begin{document}$ s $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula> queueing system with balking by introducing a parameter influencing the strength of balking. Further, we define a procedure for estimating the model parameter influencing the strength of balking. Understanding the state transition of a process from the time series data obtained from the process is important from the viewpoint of both analyzing and controlling the process. In particular, it is important to clarify a turning point of the state transition, that is, the point of change in the process and to find the cause of the state transition by observing and analyzing the data from the process. This paper considers the method of detecting several change points in a process based on the likelihood theory and information criterion when a series of data from the process follows the Poisson process. Then, the method of finding any process state fluctuation and points of change is called “the process state track- ing method”. The validity and applicability of the process state tracking method introduced in this paper is confirmed through some numerical applications.

The phenomenon of balking has been considered frequently in the steady-state analysis of the M/M/1 queueing system. Balking means the phenomenon that a customer who arrives at a queueing system leaves without joining a queue, since he/she is disgusted with the waiting queue length at the moment of his/her arrival. In the traditional studies for the steady-state analysis of the M/M/1 queueing system with balking, it has been typically assumed that the arrival rates obey an inverse proportional function for the waiting queue length. In this study, based on the concept of the statistical mechanics, we have a challenge to extend the traditional steady-state analysis model for the M/M/1 queueing system with balking. As the result, we have defined an extended analysis model for the M/M/1 queueing system under the consideration of the change in the directivity strength of balking. In addition, the procedure for estimating the strength of balking in this analysis model using the observed data in the M/M/1 queueing system has been also constructed.

<p>In recent years, under the limited information that the means and variances of the failure and repair times are just given, the method of evaluating MTTF in the two-component standby redundancy system with priority has been proposed. In this study, by expanding the idea to evaluate MTTF proposed in the previous research, an evaluation method for the variance of the failure times in the aforementioned system is established under the premise that the means and variances of the failure and repair times are just given. Through numerical verification, the usefulness of the evaluation method constructed in this study is reconfirmed.</p>

<p>Negotiation procedures between a supplier and a retailer in a supply chain model including buyback contract have been studied in recent years. The negotiation procedures in the above studies have consisted of three successive steps: (i) show the necessity that the conclusion of the contract based on a set of contract parameters brings respective incentives to both of the supplier and retailer, (ii) present a mutual relationship between contract parameters of guaranteeing simultaneously optimalities of both of the supplier and retailer, and (iii) determine a unique combination of contract parameters using the Nash bargaining theory. Through successive steps (i)-(iii), some sets of contract parameters have been screened step by step, and eventually, an optimal set of contract parameters has been uniquely decided in step (iii) as a bargaining solution. However, the mathematical significance of respective conditions derived in steps (i) and (ii) for the bargaining solution of step (iii) has not been fully explained. Therefore, we reconsider respective roles of steps (i) and (ii) in the negotiation procedure based on a supply chain model including buyback contract. Then, we confirm the usefulness of the negotiation procedure consisting of three successive steps in the preceding studies.</p>

Traditional acceptance sampling plans have focused on the proportion of nonconforming items as an attribute criterion for quality. In today's modern quality management under high quality production environments, the reduction of the deviation from a target value in a quality characteristic has become the most important purpose. In consequence, various inspection plans for the purpose of reducing the deviation from the target value in the quality characteristic have been investigated. In this case, a concept of the quality loss evaluated by the deviation from the target value has been accepted as the variable evaluation criterion of quality. Further, some quality measures based on the quality loss have been devised e.g. the process loss and the process capability index. Then, as one of inspection plans based on the quality loss, the rigorous design procedure for the variable sampling plan having desired operating characteristics (VS-OC plan) indexed by the quality loss has been proposed by Yen and Chang in 2009. By the way, since the estimator of the quality loss obeys the non-central chi-square distribution, the rigorous design procedure for the VS-OC plan indexed by the quality loss is complicated. In particular, the rigorous design procedure for the VS-OC plan requires a large number of the repetitive and complicated numerical calculation about the non-central chi-square distribution. On the other hand, an approximate design procedure for the VS-OC plan has been proposed before the proposal of the above rigorous design procedure. The approximate design procedure for the VS-OC plan has been constructed by combining Patnaik approximation relating the non-central chi-square distribution to the central chi-square distribution and Wilson-Hilferty approximation relating the central chi-square distribution to the standard normal distribution. Then, the approximate design procedure has been devised as a convenient procedure without complicated and repetitive numerical calculations. In this study, through some comparisons between the rigorous and approximate design procedures, the applicability of the approximate design procedure has been confirmed.

Though the cost of establishing semiconductor equipment is expensive, equipment becomes obsolete quickly by new technology emerging in succession. Also, capacity of semiconductor equipment must be decided ahead of actual demand because the lead time necessary to prepare capacity is long. A typical type of contracts to mitigate a variety of risks in semiconductor industry is a capacity reservation contract in which a manufacturer of assembled products offers a semiconductor manufacturer the incentive to preparing the sufficient capacity. The capacity reservation contract has the following three contract parameters: (1) capacity, (2) reservation fee, (3) reservation quantity. At first, this study discusses some conditions about these three parameters to meet the requirement that the respective profits of the manufacturer of assembled products and semiconductor manufacturer under the capacity reservation contract exceed those under no capacity reservation contract. In this study, these conditions are called agreement conditions in the contract. Next, we consider the generalized Nash bargaining solution in order to decide the contract parameters of the capacity reservation contract. Then, the optimal contract parameters are discussed by taking into consideration the power balance between cooperative members in the generalized Nash bargaining solution.

We consider a two-unit standby redundant system with priority. In the previous literature, the theoretical formulae for the MTTF of such a system have been obtained using the renewal theory in the condition that the probability distributions about failure and repair times have the respective explicit functions. However, it is sometimes impossible to calculate the MTTF of the system depending on the probability distributions in the case of using the theoretical formulae in the previous literature. In this paper, we consider the situation that the probability distributions about failure and repair times can be approximated as a mixed Erlang distribution. Under this situation, we develop a new approximation procedure for computing the MTTF of the system by combining some results of the Markov analysis based on Erlang distributions. Then, we investigate the validity of our proposed approximation by simulation.

Random numbers obeying beta distribution are utilized for simulation analyses of various stochastic models. However, the procedure for generating beta random numbers is limited depending on the values of the parameters. Therefore, in this paper, a unified procedure for generating beta random numbers independent of the values of the parameters is investigated using Wilson-Hilferty approximation and Stuarts proposition.

A SN ratio is famous as a criterion for parameter design using the Taguchi method. In recent years, it has been revealed that the statistical feature of the SN ratio is described by a doubly non-central F distribution. Accordingly, the characteristics of the doubly non-central F distribution are gaining attention again. However, it is extremely difficult to theoretically and exactly evaluate a percentile for the doubly non-central F distribution since its probability density function is very complicated. Therefore, approximation techniques for evaluating the percentile have been conventionally studied. One of them, a method for approximating the doubly non-central F distribution using central F distribution based on the first three approximate moments in the doubly non-central F distribution has been devised. Further, an evaluation of the doubly non-central F distribution percentile based on Cornish-Fisher expansion using those approximate values of first three moments has been proposed. In this study, we calculate the accurate values of moments in doubly non-central F distribution, and then propose a new method for evaluating the percentile of the distribution using the accurate values of the first two moments. Through some numerical simulations, the effectiveness of our new proposal in this study is confirmed. In addition, as an application of our proposal, the confidence interval of the SN ratio is evaluated.

In general, the quality of items produced in a manufacturing process is not necessarily uniform, and it has stochastic variability. Control charts are basic tools for detecting a change in process conditions using the quality data with stochastic variability. When the assignable change in process conditions is detected by the control charts, identifying the time point of state change and searching for assignable causes are important issues in process management. In this study, first we develop the state transition tracking method for depicting the state transition and showing the change points using successive observed data. Then, we discuss a new procedure for monitoring the process conditions using the state transtion tracking method with the control charts.

In recent years, it has been indicated that the statistical feature of the SN ratio, which is famous as a criterion for parameter design using the Taguchi method, is described by a doubly non-central F distribution. Accordingly, the characteristics of the doubly non-central F distribution are gaining attention again. It should be noted that the cumulative distribution function of doubly non-central F distribution is shown based on the incomplete beta function or Gauss hypergeometric function. Since the computations for incomplete beta function and Gauss hypergeometric function are complex, approximations for evaluating the cumulative distribution function of the doubly non-central F distribution have been investigated. In this study, a new approximation for the cumulative distribution function of the doubly non-central F distribution is proposed. Through some numerical validation, the features of the proposed approximation are addressed.

Probability inequalities are used as a means to evaluate the upper bounds of upper probability for an average of some random variables based on finite stochastic properties, excluding the probability distribution functions of respective random variables. Note that in the case of applying the probability inequality, it is not necessary for the population of each random variable to be identical. Of the existing probability inequalities, Hoeffding probability inequality is highly regarded as an excellent probability inequality from the viewpoint of performance. Hoeffding probability inequality evaluates the upper bounds of upper probability for an average of some random variables based on limited stochastic properties such as expectation, variance and codomain in each random variable. However, we consider that there is a room to improve the performance of Hoeffding probability inequality. In this study, we demonstrate a technique for improving the performance of Hoeffding probability inequality in the case that the population of each random variable is not always identical.

The continuous-review (<i>Q</i>, <i>r</i>) inventory model for simultaneously determining economic order quantity and economic reorder point has been considered. In this paper, we investigate an improvement in the basic continuous-review (<i>Q</i>, <i>r</i>) inventory model. Further, an additional procedure to obtain a feasible solution based on the continuous-review (<i>Q</i>, <i>r</i>) inventory model is proposed.

The control chart is a primary tool of judging whether a manufacturing process is in-control or not. Especially, the T2 control chart is known as a multivariate control chart that monitors a mean vector of several related quality characteristics. It is an important issue to identify which quality characteristics are responsible for out-of-control signal when a multivariate control chart signals. This paper considers a method of identifying quality characteristics responsible for out-of-control signal on operating the T2 control chart. © 2013 IEEE.

In Japan, books and magazines have been distributed under the resale price maintenance and consignment sale systems. At present, the return rate of books and magazines has reached approximately 40 percent of the quantity of publications under the systems mentioned above. This is a severe problem from the viewpoints of both business and environment. For the purpose to solve this problem, a new sale system where wholesale price is reasonable while buyback price is inexpensive has been programmed and practiced. The wholesale and buyback prices are important contract parameters in the transaction program between publisher and bookstore. In this paper, the publishing supply chain consisting of a publisher and a bookstore is formulated as a mathematical model. Then, we have developed a new approach to solve the collaborative sale contract problem with wholesale and buyback prices as contract parameters.

The publications of books, magazines, music compact discs and newspapers in Japan are traded under the resale price maintenance and consignment sale systems. By these systems, the retail price is set uniformly nationwide, and dead stock is repurchased with the same price as the wholesale price. Therefore, it has not been required that bookstores in Japan actively develop an aggressive sale policy. On the other hand, a main policy of publishing companies is to deliver a large number of books in order to secure sales space in bookstores. As a consequence, in recent years, the returned goods rate of books has reached approximately 40 percent of the quantity of publications. This fact is getting a serious problem on management and environment. Under such a situation, a new sales system is considered where the wholesale price is lowered while cutting the buyback price is considered. In this case, both the wholesale price and buyback price are important contract parameters, and should be agreed on appropriately between the publishing company and bookstore. In this article, the supply chain contract problem between bookstore and publishing company is formulated. In particular, we assume that an accurate demand distribution of books is unknown from the reason why book has long product lifecycle and uniqueness. Accordingly, we apply the distribution free approach to solve this problem by using the limited information on mean and variance of demand. Then, a new decision procedure for contract parameters such as wholesale price and buyback price is discussed and suggested using the conventional coordination approach and game theory.

The quality of lots has sometimes been evaluated based on attribute properties such as the proportion or number of non-conforming items in the lot. There are two kinds of attribute sampling inspection plans with screening, called lot tolerance percent defective (LTPD) inspection and average outgoing quality limit (AOQL) inspection. These sampling inspection schemes have been designed in order to minimize the average total inspection (ATI), which means the expectation of number of samples to be inspected in the case of acceptance and number of samples inspected in the case that the lot is rejected. Taguchi proposed a concept of quality loss as a measure to evaluate the quality of items based on variable properties instead of attribute qualities such as the proportion of non-conforming items. This variable quality evaluation measure is known as "Taguchi's quality loss." Arizono et al. proposed acceptance sampling plans based on operating characteristics from the viewpoint of ensuring Taguchi's quality loss. Furthermore, Takemoto and Arizono proposed variable sampling inspection plans with screening for the purpose of ensuring the upper limit of maximum expected surplus loss after inspection indexed by Taguchi's quality loss. However, in the variable sampling inspection plans with screening considered in the above articles, minimizing the ATI in the screening sampling scheme has not been considered. In this article, we present design procedures for new variable sampling inspection plans with screening indexed by Taguchi's quality loss for the purpose of minimizing the ATI in conformity with conventional LTPD and AOQL attribute sampling inspection plans with screening.

The conventional reorder point system has been studied by many researchers, and is still an important issue in inventory management. In the continuous review system, the reorder point is set as an inventory level so that the shortage rate during the procurement lead time becomes less than or equal to the specified allowable level. The conventional design of the reorder point is based on the assumption that demand follows a normal distribution. However, this assumption is not always appropriate. In this study, the design of the reorder point using the limited demand information is proposed.

An R out of N standby redundant system consists of N components and operates if at least R components are functioning. The increase in the number of failed components leads the system to a breakdown. In order to avoid the breakdown of the system, it may be natural that a repair man is temporarily added into the system when the number of failures in the components becomes large. In this paper, we consider an R out of N standby redundant system with an emergency repair man. In the analysis, we adopt the graph technique for obtaining the system availability and then show its effectiveness in comparison with the traditional approach. Further, the economical operation of the emergency repair man and the economical design of the system are investigated.

Process capability indices are widely used to provide evaluation measures of process potential and performance. Especially, the process capability index C_<pm>, which is defined by the tolerance and deviation from the target, is called the Taguchi index. Boyles investigated the statistical characteristics of the C_<pm>, estimator, and also proposed a methodology for the C_<pm> control chart. Needless to say, since the process capability index C_<pm> is based on the concept of the quality loss introduced by Taguchi, it basically relates to the concept of cost performance. In this article, we consider the economical operation of the C_<pm> control chart in conformity with the expected total operation cost function based on the sampling cost, the sample cost and the surplus loss by means of ignoring the out-of-control state. Then, the economical operation of the C_<pm> control chart minimizing the total operation cost is investigated.

In today's business environment, we are faced with some problems from the viewpoint of ecology; one important problem being the reuse of used products. Used products are generally collected and stored as reusable resources. The remanufacturing production system meets the demand by remanufacturing products utilizing reusable resources in addition to the production of new products. In this case, the flow of reusable resources is called reverse-logistics in contrast to the flow of demand. Naturally, the optimal production policy of the remanufacturing production system with reverse-logistics s...

The quality of a lot has sometimes been evaluated based on attribute properties such as the percentage of nonconforming items or the number of nonconforming items in the lot. On the other hand, Taguchi has proposed the concept of "quality loss" as the evaluation measure of quality of items based on variable properties. Concretely, Taguchi's loss function has been defined as a quadratic function based on the departure from the target value of an item. Recently, from the viewpoint of assuring the quality loss based on Taguchi's loss function, a single sampling inspection plan based on operating characteristics has been proposed. This sampling procedure has been designed for the purpose of assuring both the specified producer's risk for the lot with an acceptable quality loss limit and the consumer's risk for the lot with a rejectable quality loss limit. However, the disposition of the rejected lot isn't specifically declared in the sampling inspection plan mentioned above. While, there is a sampling inspection plan with screening by attribute in which the rejected lot in the sampling inspection is thoroughly inspected and nonconforming items are exchanged for conforming items or repaired. In this sampling procedure, the sampling plans have been designed for the purpose of assuring the percentage of nonconforming items in every lot and the upper limit of the average outgoing quality level as the average outgoing percentage of nonconforming items. In this article, the quality evaluation based on Taguchi's loss function is adopted instead of the quality evaluation based on the percentage of nonconforming items as lot quality. Then, we propose a single sampling inspection plan with screening by variable indexed by Taguchi's loss function for the purpose of assuring the upper limit of the maximum expected surplus loss.

In general, a process starts in an in-control state and then some assignable causes change the process state to be out-of-control. It is worthwhile to utilize serial data in addition to the current data in order to monitor the process state, for which the CUSUM and EWMA control charts are useful. Performance of the CUSUM and EWMA control charts has been investigated under the condition that the process starts in an out-of-control state. However, as mentioned above, a process usually starts in an in-control state. In this paper, we present CUSUM and EWMA control charts based on the Kullback-Leibler information. Then, and investigate their performance under the condition that some assignable causes change the process from the in-control state to an out-of-control state. Because it is also important to discriminate the switchover time of the process state, we propose a discrimination procedure for the process state switchover time based on the information criterion.

We have contrived these control charts in order to detect the out-of-control state of the process. The assignable causes of the out-of-control state consist of the incompleteness of materials supplied from the previous process or in the process operation at the present process. In quality management, it is important to detect the out-of-control state and to remove the factor by which it is caused. Recently, Cao et al. considered the mean availability of a system that has multiple failure modes. Thus led to the creation of a formula for the mean availability of systems with multiple failure modes (i.e., random and wear-out failure modes). The formula of the mean availability derived by Cao et al. requires an exact distribution function of failure-time distribution that wear-out failures follow. However, there are often cases where information such as average and standard deviation are only known, and the exact distribution function isn't specified. In this article, under limited infor...

In recent years, build-to-order manufacturing systems have been increasingly adopted, because of their ability to meet the various needs of customers and progress in Internet businesses. Therefore, it is necessary to construct a build-to-order manufacturing system that is capable of reducing the inventory cost of components and opportunity loss in busy periods and decrease the operating cost of manufacturing facilities and wages for employees in idle periods. Therefore, we consider a build-to-order manufacturing system with a standby facility in addition to a permanent facility, and investi...

Manufacturing systems are classified into make-to-stock (MTS) systems and make-to-order (MTO) systems. In particular, the MTO manufacturing systems have been applied to many enterprises in order to react to consumer's uncertain demands and various requirements. Until now, in the studies for the order splitting policy to some original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) under the MTO manufacturing systems, the expectation of the lead time has been mainly considered. In general, the lead-time has the variability because of the fluctuations of the processing time and the demand. Therefore, when the optimal operation of the MTO manufacturing systems is investigated, we should consider the possibility of the delay for the appointed date of delivery of products. In this study, taking the penalty of the delay of delivery into consideration, we investigate the order splitting policy to two OEMs having the difference in the processing cost and the capacity.

In traditional reliability tests for assuring the mean time to failure (MTTF) in Weibull distribution with shape and scale parameters, it is assumed that the change of lifetime is concerned with the scale parameter only. Then, Hisada et al. proposed a reliability test procedure for assuring MTTF while considering the influence of both shape and scale parameters. Their reliability test requires complete lifetime data, and the application of a censoring procedure for designing a reliability test for Weibull distribution that considers the influence of both shape and scale parameters has not b...

Recently, the rapid growth of data-acquisition technology and the use of online computers for process monitoring have led to an increased interest in the simultaneous surveillance of several related quality characteristics or process variables. In general, related quality characteristics are assumed to be distributed as multivariate normal random variables. As a result, the multivariate control chart for the mean vector has been studied extensively in many works. Popularly, in the case that the quality characteristics are distributed as univariate normal random variables, the mean and variance are simultaneously treated as the objectives of surveillance. From this point, in the case that the quality characteristics are distributed as multivariate normal random variables, the mean vector and variance-covariance matrix should be simultaneously treated as the objectives of surveillance. Kanagawa et al. have proposed a (x^^-, s) simultaneous control chart that enables the user to monitor both changes in the mean and variance in a process simultaneously based on Kullback-Leibler information when the quality characteristics are distributed as univariate normal random variables. In this study, as an extension of the (x^^-, s) simultaneous control chart, we propose a multivariate (X^^-, S) simultaneous control chart that enables the user to monitor both changes in the mean vector and variance-covariance matrix simultaneously. Further, the evaluation of the power for the proposed multivariate (X^^-, S) simultaneous control chart is also considered.

It is generally assumed that data are distributed as normal random variables. Therefore, the data are analyzed based on normal distribution. However, in practice, there are many situations that data are distributed as non-normal random variables. The data for material destruction phenomenon is one example. In this case, the data for destruction is explained clearer by the extreme value distribution based on the weakest link theory rather than normal distribution. It is illustrated that the various data based on the weakest link theory, such as data for the strength of industrial materials, ...

The accelerated life tests can obtain information on lifetime characteristics of products quickly. Then, the products can be submitted to higher levels of stress in various ways such as constant, step, and progress stress. In a constant-stress model, products are run under a constant level of stress until all products fail or a time limit is reached. A step-stress model allows the stress setting to be changed at a prescribed time or upon the occurrence of a fixed number of failures. In a progress-stress model, the stress is continuously increased over time. Until now, under the assumption of the functional relationship between the parameters of lifetime distribution and applied stress, there are many studies about parameter estimation using data obtained from an accelerated life test. In this study, instead of the parameter estimate problem, we consider a new design procedure of accelerated life tests based on the simple-step-stress model for assuring the mean time to failure (MTTF) at usual stress with specified producer and consumer risks under the condition that the parameters of the lifetime distribution at two stress levels are provided. The practical usage of the proposed design procedure is illustrated through some numerical examples.

This article deals with the hypothesis test for the homogeneity of two normal populations. The likelihood ratio test is a usual method for such testing. In general theory, the asymptotic distribution of log-likelihood ratio statistics as testing statistics is well known under the null hypothesis, so we may design the test based on the asymptotic distribution. On one hand, the asymptotic distribution of log-likelihood ratio statistics is also considered under the alternative hypothesis. However, in the case that sample sizes are not so large, the asymptotic distributions are not so accurate under the arbitrary hypotheses. Recently, Arizono et al. have derived the cumulant generating function for the log-likelihood ratio statistics under the null hypothesis when the sample size is finite, and enabled to design accurately the null hypothesis test for homogeneity of two normal populations. However, the stochastic properties of log-likelihood ratio statistics under the alternative hypothesis and the power of testing have not been investigated in theory. Therefore, we consider the stochastic properties of log-likelihood ratio statistics under arbitrary hypotheses in this article. Concretely, the cumulant generating function for the log-likelihood ratio statistics and the cumulant of arbitrary order are derived under the arbitrary hypotheses when the sample size is finite. Further, by using the cumulants of log-likelihood ratio statistics derived in this article, we develop the approximation for the distribution of log-likelihood ratio statistics, and propose the theoretical evaluation of the power for the homogeneity hypothesis test.

The cumulative sum control chart is known as a control chart sensitive to a slight change in lot quality characteristics. Further, in this control chart, the user can determine chart parameters according to the degree of change in quality characteristics which the user wants to detect. On the other hand, Kanagawa et al.have proposed the(x^^-, s)simultaneous control chart which enables the user to monitor both changes of the mean and the variance simultaneously for normally distributed characteristics. In this paper, we consider a cumulative sum(x^^-, s)simultaneous control chart in order to improve the control feature for a slight change in quality characteristics. In addition, the economical operation of the cumulative sum(x^^-, s)simultaneous control chart is also considered.

When making decisions about several problems in various systems, it is a realistic correspondence to make decisions based only on the limited information available. In order to make rational decisions, a scientific and systematic method for understanding the target system based on limited information is necessary. Considering this situation, this study discusses system analysis methods based on limited information in several systems, and decision-making methods based on the results of such analysis.

With the project called "Industry 4.0" that gives the idea of the next generation production system, efforts utilizing ICT at the production scenes are underway rapidly. In particular, efforts to analyze large amounts of data extracted from various devices in the factory connected by a network are central to that. In this research project, we considered the quality management systems based on data analysis based on the manufacturing environment in which ICT was developed. Concretely, we examined a methodology for linking data analysis with the concept of cost and visualizing waste and losses into perceivable form by human beings.

In today’s business environment, conventional transaction systems and styles sometimes don’t function well from the change of market structure and advance in information and communication technology. This research project has considered transaction systems and styles to achieve rationalization and optimization of distribution systems in today’s supply chains. In particular, the transaction systems and styles can be considered supply chain contracts. In this research project, the transactions in some business scenes such as publishing business and semiconductor industry have been formulated as a mathematical model. Then, the mathematical models have been analyzed using the theory of game and mechanism design. Decision making strategy of contract parameters in the mathematical models has been researched and developed.
