“Mansfield’s Bliss and Lawrence’s Anguish: Modernist Experiments in Verbalising Uncontrollable Feelings.”

This article compares Katherine Mansfield's "Bliss" and D. H. Lawrence's "The White Stocking" and clarifies the ways in which they verbalise uncontrollable feelings ー bliss and anguish ー by resisting and reconceptualising traditional emotional expressions. This article throws new light on the close relationship between Mansfield and Lawrence in terms of their linguistic ambition and the ways in which their languages of bodily feeling relate to the thematic concerns of their stories.
