[Abstract] If all people are satisfied with the present conditions, nobody expects new design. Without need to change daily life, it is meaningless to design something. However, there is a new demand every day practically, and design is created. New design tempts a user into an unknown event. This study aims at getting closer to the essence of design. Rationality and novelty, two properties give newness to design. This report considers the social significance of two properties that has antinomy and finds the social role of design.
